“The accomplice to the crime of corruption is frequently our own indifference.”
Who is going to do more damage, what Bane did to Gotham City or what Speaker Boehner wants to do to the American economy?
This question of course has one fatal flaw, it does not take into account the fact that Bane is a fictitious character, where Boehner is a real menacing villain. This is not a movie, this is our lives. People of Ohio, people of America; Stand up, speak up, and speak out against this man! Let this politician, this person who works for the us, the American people and not the “one-percenters” who fund him, know that we are not alright with him holding America hostage. He is doing a great disservice to his constituents, his party, and to the American people. He claims to be a servant of America, he claims that he is doing what is best for the future of the American people, and if he were, I would have no problem with having an alternate solution to the problem(s) facing the American economy. But that simply is not the case. He is not trying to help, he is purposely attempting to secure “special privileges” for the upper echelon of earners while decimating the rights of the working class. And since he is not part of the solution, he is part of the problem. He intentionally puts up road blocks to hinder the progression of a resolution to this self-inflicted dilemma.
He claims to be a champion of the people, but while he leaves town to enjoy his “well deserved” vacation, still drawing his paycheck, our troops, the real heroes of America, sit in harm’s way wondering whether or not the people they risk their lives to defend will defend them. Thomas Jefferson would agree that, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.” But our sacrifices should not be thrown down with reckless abandon to ensure a future for the very few at the top. A true democratic society works for all people, top to bottom.
The securing of those right have not been given freely. We have had to fight tooth and nail for every insurance that those rights will be protected. The poor, immigrants, women, Blacks, the disabled, the elderly, gay, the disenfranchised, and unpopular sects all are protected under our Constitution. Sacrifices have been made, battles have been fought, and lines have been drawn to secure those freedoms both economically, socially, and civilly. This democracy only works if everyone is willing to work for it. Those at the bottom must all shout in unison so that the people at the top can hear us clearly, “We will not stand for the decimation of our rights and freedom.” No taxation without equal and adequate representation. Read that Boehner as, “If you want to keep your job, do your job and protect our interests.” Because right now, you are running rampant with that gavel acting as if you are some fictional super villain bent on the destruction of the established economic structure that has long supported the growth and dominance of this great nation of ours.
